WHAT’Snew
In today’s tech-driven world, it
can be difficult for students and
teachers to keep track of all of
the important information they
need. LiveHive is a new free
tool designed to give students
and educators a way to stay or-
ganized, collaborate with class-
mates, and work efficiently. Students can capture webpages,
PDFs, pictures, and even audio from lessons and keep them
all in one place, accessible from anywhere. Students can ac-
cess and edit their Google Drive documents within LiveHive,
allowing them to write their papers in the same place their
sources are stored. Additionally, LiveHive allows students to
take notes directly on captured webpages, keeping thoughts
and the material that inspired them in sync.

School Fuel has launched its first mobile
learning platform for K– 12 schools. School
Fuel provides customized app and resource
libraries aligned to Common Core State
Standards and designed to help schools deliver
the right apps to the right students at the right
time—on any device. Participating schools have im-
mediate access to a comprehensive app library and can
easily add apps and digital learning resources to share with
students. Schools using Google Apps for Education can
install a free version of School Fuel from the Google Apps
Marketplace. Using the School Fuel administration console,
educators populate app and resource libraries based on sub-
ject areas, grade levels, and Common Core State Standards.
Students can quickly access these apps, files, digital texts,
and links on nearly any device, including phones and tablets.

Brain Gain: Technology and the
Quest for Digital Wisdom, a new
book by Marc Prensky, refutes claims
that technology is dampening our ability to think. Instead, Prensky argues
that smart technology (and smart use
of technology) enhances our humanity
in ways that the brain on its own cannot. Prensky shows that the symbiotic relationship between
the human brain and technology—which marries the brain’s
strengths, such as sense-making and complex reasoning
abilities, to technology’s strengths, such as storing and processing large amounts of data—has great benefits for our
own cognitive functioning.
