ISTE Releases Position Statement on Common Core
As U.S. educators move to implement the Common Core State
Standards (CCSS) within the next two years, ISTE is urging educators to implement the new standards in tandem with the NETS for
students, teachers, administrators, and coaches to ensure that all
students meet or exceed the rigorous learning goals embedded in
the CCSS. In a position statement on the CCSS released in June,
ISTE emphasized that technology provides access to tools and resources that personalize instruction and create rich, engaging, and
relevant learning environments.
“The NETS help educators build a firm foundation for teaching
with technology and further the development of many of the same
21st century skills set forth by the Common Core State Standards,
such as problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration skills,” the statement reads.
ISTE is ready to assist educators in implementing both sets of
standards together. “As the premier association for educators engaged in leveraging technology to improve teaching and learning,
ISTE is poised to provide the professional development,
resources, and advocacy needed to support
district leaders, principals, and teachers
as they infuse technology across the curriculum to increase student engagement,
personalize learning, improve student
achievement, and, ultimately, help students master the Common Core
State Standards,” the position
statement says.
