Vernier Software & Technology
has launched Go Wireless Temp, a rugged, stainless-steel temperature sensor that
collects data and can be used with a free iOS app.
Its durability, temperature range, and wireless capability
make it well suited for a variety of classroom experiments.
The new sensor allows students to explore temperature in
the environment and in systems such as fish tanks, greenhouses, thermal mugs, or heating and cooling devices. The
sensor is also compatible with Graphical Analysis for iPad,
a paid app that allows students to save data, perform curve
fits, annotate graphs, perform statistical calculations, and
export data for further analysis.

The Council for
Economic Education, in collaboration with
H&R Block Dollars & Sense, has launched Gen i: Murktide Invasion and
Gen i: Beyond the Mission, two new interactive games in
the free Gen i Revolution suite. Both incorporate Facebook
functionality and are available for tablets and computers.
Murktide Invasion, designed for students in grades 9–12,
challenges players to go head to head with the “Murktide,”
a network of double agents spreading false information
about finance across the country. Players must use strategic
thinking to beat back the Murktide in key regions and win
control of the U.S. map. Beyond the Mission is an interactive
graphic novel that puts its players’ financial skills to the test
through a series of six missions.

Amplify has
unveiled a
collection of
more than
30 games
designed to help students achieve core educational
goals in English language arts and STEM. The games,
which are being piloted in middle schools across the United
States, will be available on the Amplify tablet and major
mobile operating systems, including iOS. The games seek
to help students better understand the relationship between
effort and success, persist in the face of difficulty, and embrace—rather than fear—failure as a part of the learning
process. For example, Lexica, an immersive world with characters from literature and nonfiction, helps build key reading
and writing skills and reinforces language and themes from
the books players have read. Reading books from the library
enables players to better understand the characters and
puzzles they encounter in the game world and provides a
way to unlock customized capabilities.
