WHAT’Snew
NASA Education has launched Clubhouse, a new section
on its Kids’ Club website. Kids find their way to the new
Clubhouse from the mission control console on the NASA
Kids’ Club page. From there, they can journey with Nebula,
the Clubhouse commander, and explore games and interactive features designed for K– 4 audiences. A porthole in the
floor offers views of Earth taken from space. Students can
read about NASA, play a game about what astronauts eat in
space, discover what their age and weight would be on the
moon or another planet, color pictures of wildlife living on
NASA centers, assemble a polygon featuring NASA aircraft,
and check out the “hot spots” that come to life on contact.

Dassault Systemes has launched two free 3D programs de-
signed to teach students about science and history. The first,
Giza 3D, allows users to explore a re-creation of the world-
famous Giza plateau, home of the historic Giza Necropolis.
Creators worked with the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and
Harvard University to digitize nearly 100 years of Egypt re-
search. Students can roam throughout the necropolis, visit
the carefully restored tombs, access shafts and corridors,
and read details about the lives of the occupants in each
burial chamber, including the dates of discovery and objects
collected. The second project, Paris 3D, allows students to
discover both ancient and modern-day Paris by virtually visit-
ing the city from 52 B.C. to the present, including stops in the
Middle Ages, at the 1889 world’s fair (when the Eiffel Tower
was revealed), and at other points of historical significance.
The online experience enables students to compare how a
location looked in ancient times with how it looks now.
