T he digital divide—the gap be- tween those who have access to technology resources and those
who don’t—is a barrier to ensuring
that every child gets a quality education. Internet service has become
essential for success in the global
economy and to be an active citizen.
But many students still don’t have
internet access at home.
Comcast is making an effort to
bridge that divide through the Internet Essentials program. Internet Essentials is available to U.S. households
with children who receive free or
reduced-price school lunches through
the National School Lunch Program.
While participating in Internet
Essentials, customers receive affordable internet at $9.95 a month + tax
with no price increases, activation
costs, or equipment rental fees.
In addition, families who qualify
for the program are eligible to pur-
chase a netbook computer at the
reduced price of $149.99, although
there is no obligation to buy.
Over 2,100 carefully
