Many children started blogging
by making comments to each other
with their parents’ help. Children introduced themselves and made comments such as, “My name is.... I am
so excited to meet you,” “Only 5 more
sleeps until kindergarten,” etc.
Once school starts in the fall, we
look at the blogs together, and all the
students have opportunities to use
the electronic whiteboard to highlight
their posts. What a great way to build
self-esteem, confidence, and community! It’s really wonderful to see
children creating and designing their
own posts and using various reading
and writing strategies to convey their
meaning.
Blogging also creates an opportuni-
ty for students to learn to become safe
and responsible digital citizens. As
the year goes on, my students become
completely independent at creating
their own posts.
