For the habitat unit, students became familiar with two iPad apps. First
they used neu.KidsDraw to create the
habitat around the image of the animal
they chose for their report. Then they
imported the drawing into another
app, Sundry Notes, to create the final report. One class opted to draw a
habitat with the appropriate animal
and plants and then used the camera
on the iPad2 to take a picture of their
drawing, which they imported into
Sundry Notes for their final report. The
project-based design of this unit and
easy access to mobile devices allowed
for deep learning for the various levels
and strengths of the students in the
first grade classes.
