ISTE Authors Launch Flipped Learning Network

Flipped learning pioneers and ISTE authors Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams have launched the Flipped Learning Network ( flippedlearning.org), a nonprofit organization for teachers interested in the flipped learning ideology.

Flipped learning is when the teacher’s lecture is delivered on video as homework and class time is devoted to active problem solving and individual or small-group tutoring.

Bergmann and Sams built the Flipped Learning Network to continue the discussion about this new classroom model described in their book Flip Your Classroom: Reach Every Student in Every Class Every Day ( iste.org/flippr). The goal is to provide educators with the knowledge, skills, and resources to successfully implement flipped learning.

The network will host the annual Flipped Conference and regional training workshops and will coordinate the Teacher Vod-casting and Flipped Learning Network Ning Community, where thousands of educators participate in flipped educator groups and discussion forums.

The International Federation for Information Processing is accepting proposals for its 10th World Conference on Computers in Education, which will be held July 2–5 in Torun, Poland.

December 17 is the deadline to submit proposals for papers, panels, thematic streams, professional meetings, workshops, tutorials, software/ tool demonstrations, and exhibitions.

Members Learn from Colleagues Down Under

ISTE is going down under to explore some of the greatest innovations in educational technology in Australia. Educational leaders from across the United States and beyond will visit Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney from September 28 to October 13.

Study tour participants will attend—and some will present at— the Australian Computers in Education Conference. They’ll also visit innovative schools, libraries, and educational organizations that integrate ICT throughout their students’ learning experiences.
