Discover Math with SketchPad Explorer
The makers of Geometer’s SketchPad have
created SketchPad Explorer for the iPad,
an app that allows users to manipulate,
animate, and drag mathematical represen-
tations to help students understand various
math concepts. In addition, SketchPad has workbooks for
elementary math (grades 1–6), algebra (grades 7–9), and
geometry (grades 9–10).
This app does not have all the tools that are available on
the desktop version. However, after downloading it for
free, you can go to Sketch Exchange (sketchexchange.
keypress.com) and download many of the free add-on
documents that work with the program. For example, the
Measure a Picture add-on allows students to take photographs within the program. Students can then superimpose
the measuring tools, such as the dynamic protractor and
linear measurement tool, over the photograph to measure
real-world artifacts. You can choose the add-ons
by searching by topic or grade level.
