Green and Lively Lessons for All Grades
Discovery Education offers a waste management resource website for K– 12 students and their teachers called Think Green. The aim is to answer questions such as: What happens to the waste we all produce? When does it make sense to recycle? Can trash become nergy? The site also encourages students to take a more interactive approach to learning about these issues. Teachers have access to standards- based lesson plans, instructional videos, and step-by-step interactive activities that can be carried over from classroom to home instruction. Discovery Educa- tion has made an effort to cover timely topics, such as disposing of elec- tronic waste and the steps to natural resource recovery. This suite of tools provides educators with new ways to enliven envi- ronmental lessons. Using Think Green’s resources, teachers can guide younger children through the process of undertanding how recyclables are sorted and used for energy, the high impact of too much waste, and the importance of reducing, reusing, recycling, and recovering. Older students will be challenged to think about methods to eliminate waste and develop new ways to solve solid-waste problems. Think Green’s resources, such as worksheets, puzzles, and videos, are available in grade-specific formats for both teachers and parents. Find out more at www.ThinkGreen.com/classroom.
