Initiatives
ISTE is known as a convener, bringing together stakeholders to further their common

National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) http://www.iste.org/necc
For nearly three decades, NECC has been the premier forum in which to learn,
exchange, and survey the field of educational technology. This annual conference—
presented by ISTE—features hands-on workshops, lecture-format and interactive
concurrent sessions, discussions with key industry leaders, and the most
comprehensive educational technology exhibit in the world.
National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) http://www.iste.org/nets
The National Educational Technology Standards for students, teachers, and administrators were published by ISTE in 1998 after almost three years of development
engaging a broad range of stakeholders. They documented a broad U.S. consensus
defining what students needed to know about and be able to do with technology. The
standards, used in every U.S. state and many countries, are credited by most with
significantly influencing state expectations for students and creating a target of excellence relating to technology. ISTE is now leading the creation of the next generation
of NETS for students, teachers, and administrators.
Research & Evaluation http://www.iste.org/research
ISTE’s Research and Evaluation mission is to contribute to the advancement of the
art and science of teaching and learning through the development, implementation,
