Net Cetera. The Net Cetera Outreach
Toolkit is a resource for educators to
use at PTA or Scout meetings, community meetings, or anywhere parents
or students gather. The kit lets anyone
give a presentation on children’s online
safety. It includes prepared remarks
that you can customize by topic and
audience, videos for kids and adults,
slides, answers to frequently asked
questions, and guides for kids (Heads
Up) and parents (Net Cetera). It is
available in English and Spanish.
Heads Up speaks to students about
what they do—and how they behave—
online. It’s designed for kids in middle
and high school and gives practical tips
on how to consider what and when
to share, how to interact, and how to
protect their own and their family’s information. Net Cetera helps adults chat
with kids about being safe online. Topics
range from file sharing and cyberbullying to sexting and mobile etiquette—in
short, what parents need to know about
issues their kids deal with daily.
Among the key takeaways for parents
are the importance of conversations
with school-age children about being
online, communicating their values to
their kids, and being patient and persistent when having these conversations.
